READING AND UNDERSTANDING THE RABBITS

19

1. In groups (or as a class) read The Rabbits

2. Discuss what the meaning of the book is- What is the message:  The message in the rabbits book is saying like how the aboriginal use to live there life and when the White people come or the europeans things started to change as in things were diffrent many Aboriginals started to dissapear and many children were taken away which is known as the stolen generation.

3. Make a list of some visual techniques that you think help creat these meanings.

the colour and the toning ,the pictures they engage the audience

the use of shape and also the textile of the rabbits good

4. Discuss what you think colours represent in this book.

I think the colour in this book represents the power the white people had on the aboriginals and i also think the colour represents that there is trouble going to happen.

THE RABBITS ANALYSING DPS4 REPRSENTATIONAL, INTERACTIVE AND COMPOSITIONAL

THE VISUAL FRAMEWORKS THREE MEANINGS:

REPRESENTATIONAL: When you first gaze at the picture the first thing that you see is a ship and the ship represents or is sending a message that the white people which represent rabbits are coming so be aware. The Kangaroos represent the Aboriginal people and they chose the Kangaroos as the characters because of there native and how long they have lived for. In the picture DPS4 there is vector lines and they are lines curved and they represent the way of how the boat is built and the colour represents there coming. The colour that stands out or shows the most meaning in this picture is the ship because it sybolises or represents a enormous golden yellow ship, and it symbolises the power that the white people have arrived to the land of the Aboriginals.  The colour red in the picture also symbolises what they are wearing and it shows the true meaning and the message it is sending throughout the whole book. The composer of the book trys to tell us to what the book is talking about by using different types of animation and expresses at the start a sense of emotions and in the picture i chose dps4 he trys to bring our attention mostly on or about the huge ship and the rabbits.

INTERACTIVE: When we first look at this image the things that are demanded and offered to the viewer in the text is the white people that are coming to the land to have control over it and nobody is going to stop them. The things that are also demanded in the picture to the viewer is the sense of feeling and you can tell what the image is talking about from the time you turn the page because the double pages or the ship takes up almost all the space because of its size and what it emphasises. In the picture the distance of the picture basically symbolises or represents that there is going to be trouble beware and the image is basically viewed from a front and mostly a high angle shot. It shows that the white people are standing on the ship and acting tough and powerful and cant wait to arrive. The background and the atmosphere through out the start is Aboriginals living freely while getting towards the middle and the end of the book it starts to change and it brings peoples attention to it and a bad feeling by the colour and the shape of the clouds the sky and the enormous colurful ship.

COMPOSTIONAL: In the compositional framework is when you discuss about the image and talk more freely about it. The salience feature in my image is the ship and the ship is the salience image because it reflects or shows more sense about what the image shows what they are doing sailing on water in a ship and who are they and why are they coming. The ship is also the salient because it shows the strongest meaning in the book. In my picture the framing of the image is basically the lines and the background on how the picture is set out and the colours it uses as in gold and yellow to express the wealth and also the power the rabbits mostly have on the aboriginals people and also on there land. The background of the double page shows mostly the atmosphere and the dark water the ship is sailing on, and by looking at the water and how it changed from light blue to dark blue you feel that you will know what will happy throughout the story or the picture book.

Analysing My Poem I Found

Really Want To Go Home

by DagaNow (Paiwan/Rukai)

Indigenous Peoples straying in the city

Do not have much luxury to dream

Blood with special mark flowing in the body

Do not know if tomorrow will still be the same

Indigenous Peoples living under uncertainty

Wounded souls want to go back to their homeland

Have been reluctantly in disguise for so long

Do not know if tomorrow will still be the same

Really want to go home

Really want to go home

At the end, Indigenous Peoples are all the same

Young men earn their livings in city factories

Young girls are forced into prostitution

Realized that life is no easy task

Do not know if tomorrow will still be the same

What will be the future for Indigenous Peoples

To speak of it made my heart feel sore

Ask for the answer made my heart go panic

Do not know if tomorrow will still be the same

Really want to go home

Really want to go home

At the end, Indigenous Peoples are all the same.

The poem i dont want to go home by Daga Now is about Aboriginal people and where they live in the city and its saying that they dont no if tomorrow is the some and they dont have luxury as in home or shelter to sleep in. This poem is about them like being lost and is also about Aboriginals and how they have to work to earn money. The poem effects me in many ways as in they dont really have a home to live in and it effects me because you feal sorry and like you have everything but they dont.  This poem was in June the 22nd 2006.

This poem is reputition because it repeats some verses more then i time and also at the end it repeats i really want to go home like 6 times. The image that comes to my head from the line i want to go home is probably they the Aboringinals are not enjoying this world working but they want to go home to there old traditions.

Are you staisfied with the groups progress so far? Yes i am but i think we could be more organised and a good idea would if we set our selves our own homework to complete. I think we all have to up the tempo more and start completing more work with the time given.Who is not pulling their weight? I think Tony is not really pulling his weight and i think he can improve if he starts doing more work and helps the team more often.
